Our Hermit Crabs come to us through private breeders and rescues. Because of this we cannot guarantee any particular specimen is wild caught or captive bred. Our crabs will also be a mix of available species.

Color and age may vary.

Experience level: intermediate

size: 2-3in

lifespan: 10-20 years or more

Temperament: peaceful

Hermit crabs can be a joy to have as you watch them navigate their enclosure and get into shenanigans. They can be communal and having more than one in the environment risks little to no aggression. They will need two different types of water in their enclosure. One for fresh and one for salt with daily water changes or when dirty. A filter is always acceptable as long as your hermie can’t get to it. They will need plenty of things to climb on and places to hide. Providing as much enrichment in their enclosures is key to a happy hermie. Hermit crabs should also have a variety of shells to choose from and never use painted on shells as the paint used to decorate them can be very toxic.

housing & lighting:

Hermit crabs can be located all around the world in tropical locations such as South America, Australia, and the Caribbean. Trying to replicate their environment can be tricky. Hermit crabs need it to be warm with high humidity. The temp of their enclosure should be 80-85 degrees and as low as 75 degrees at night. The humidity should be 75%-80%.  A low wattage UVB should be provided to help with vitamin absorption and growth.

prepare to have a large enclosure as hermit crabs need a lot of space. We recommend 10 gallons or more per crab.  They will need substrate of playsand and coco fiber mixed and kept moist. Not soaked but enough that when you squeeze it in your hand it keeps its shape and crumbles easy. Substrate should be three times as deep as the size of the hermit crab as hermit crabs do burrow to molt and this can take up to weeks or months.

Diet:

Hermit crabs are omnivores and scavengers. Fruit and protein (crickets, mealworms etc.) should be provided daily with veggies. They will also snack on oak or maple leaves as well. Hermit crabs are very sensitive and is best to feed them food that is organic and without pesticides.

*There are many different breeds of hermit crabs in the pet trade. Information provided is standard. We always recommend doing research on any pet before purchasing*
